Modal Auxiliaary verb

Modal verb

  1. Can

Digunakan untuk menyatakan meminta izin (permission) .

Ex : Can I borrow your car for one night?

  1. Could

Digunakan untuk menyatakan ability (kemampuan) di masa lalu (past).

Ex : You could run faster than me two years ago.

  1. May

Modal verb ini untuk meminta izin (permission) yang lebih formal daripada verb can.

Ex : May I go home now?

  1. Might

Might merupakan bentuk past dari may dimana di gunakan untuk meminya izin (permission) yang lebih formal daripada         verb could. Diabndign may, might lebih tentatif (tidak pasti) kejadiannya.

Ex : If I have cleaned the room, might I play with my friend?

  1. Will

Will untuk membuat prediksi.

Ex : The sandstrom will come tonight.

  1. Would

Modal verb ini menyatakan sense of probability ( kemungkinan) .

Ex : He would be free tonight.

  1. Shall

Modal verb ini untuk menyatakan obligation (kewajiban) pada formal situation.

Ex : The human resource manager shall report the employee performance.

  1. Should

Untuk memberi suggestion (saran) atau advice (nasehat) .

Ex : You should see the doctor.

  1. Must

Must dipadukan dengan not untuk menyatakan larangan (prohibiion).

Ex : You mustn’t give up.

  1. Ought to

Digunakan untuk menyatakan apa yang benar atau tepat.

Ex : We ought to select the best candidate for the job.

Future tense

  1. Positif (+)           : You will win

Negatife (-)        : you won’t win

Interogatif (?)    : will you win?

  1. Positif (+)           : They are going to come

Negatife (-)        : They aren’t going to come

Interogatif (?)    : are they going to come?

  1. Positif (+)           : I will come if they invite me.

Negatife (-)        : I won’t come if they invite me.

Interogatif (?)    : will I come if they invite me?

  1. Positif (+)            : He will be angry

Negatife (-)        : he wont be angry

Interogatif (?)    : will he be angry?

  1. Positif (+)           : I am going to send this letter tomorrow

Negatife (-)        : I’m not going to send this letter tomorrow

Interogatif (?)    : am I going to send this letter tomorrow?

  1. Positif (+)           : he is going to go to French to continue his study.

Negatife (-)        : he is not going to go to French to continue his study.

Interogatif (?)    : Is he going to go to French to continue his study?

  1. Positif (+)           : I will give you a glass of water.

Negatife (-)        : I won’t give you a glass of water.

Interogatif (?)    : will I give you a glass of water?

  1. Positif (+)           : I think he will pass.

Negatife (-)        : I think he won’t pass.

Interogatif (?)    : will I think he pass?

  1. Positif (+)           : she is going to the physiotherapist next Monday.

Negatife (-)        : she is not going to the physiotherapist next Monday.

Interogatif (?)    : is she going to the physiotherapist next Monday?

  1. Positif (+)           : she will be happy.

Negatife (-)        : she won’t be happy.

Interogatif (?)    : will she be happy?
